Acupuncturist · Classical Chinese Medicine · Usui Reiki
Where scientific understanding meets the wisdom of traditional medicine.
Haley Pillars brings an unusual combination of perspectives to Blue Root Health: a deep foundation in modern biological science, advanced education in acupuncture and Classical Chinese Medicine, and more than a decade of experience with Usui Reiki.
Before becoming an acupuncturist, Haley earned a Master of Science in Biology and spent more than ten years teaching college-level pre-medical students.
Her path into Chinese Medicine expanded the way she understood the body — from individual structures and mechanisms to the relationships and patterns that connect seemingly separate symptoms.
Today, she brings those worlds together.
Scientific curiosity. Classical wisdom. Deep listening. Care centered around the individual.

Modern Biology + Classical Chinese Medicine
Two ways of understanding the body. One whole-person perspective.
Before entering Chinese Medicine, Haley spent years studying the body through the lens of modern science.
With a Master of Science in Biology and more than a decade teaching college-level pre-medical students, she developed a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the complex systems that allow the human body to function.
But over time, Haley became interested in questions that biology alone did not always answer.
Why can two people with the same diagnosis experience it completely differently?
Why do sleep, digestion, stress, emotions, energy, pain, and lifestyle so often seem to influence one another?
That curiosity eventually led her to Classical Chinese Medicine.
Rather than seeing modern science and traditional medicine as opposing perspectives, Haley allows each to inform the way she understands the person in front of her.
Science helps her understand the mechanisms. Chinese Medicine helps her recognize the patterns and relationships.
What is happening within this particular person — and how might it all be connected?

Classical Chinese Medicine
The symptom matters. The pattern beneath it matters too.
Haley completed her Master of Acupuncture at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine, where her training emphasized understanding the patterns and relationships occurring throughout the body.
In Classical Chinese Medicine, symptoms are not viewed as separate events.
Sleep, digestion, energy, pain, circulation, temperature, emotional well-being, lifestyle, and medical history can all offer clues to the larger picture.
This means two people with the same diagnosis may present with entirely different patterns — and may need entirely different treatment.
Haley looks for those connections.
What changed?
What else is happening?
What makes it better or worse?
What appears unrelated — but may not be?
Treatment is then shaped around the individual rather than a predetermined protocol.
The goal is not simply to treat the symptom. It is to understand the person and the pattern beneath it.

Her Approach to Care
Every body has a history. Every person deserves to be heard.
For Haley, meaningful care begins before the first needle is placed.
It begins with listening.
She wants to understand not only what you are experiencing, but when it began, what was happening around that time, what makes it better or worse, and what else may have changed along the way.
Your symptoms exist within a larger story — your health history, stress, sleep, digestion, environment, lifestyle, emotional experience, and the ways your body has adapted over time.
Haley’s background as an educator also shapes the way she practices. She does not want patients simply receiving treatment without understanding why it was chosen.
She takes time to explain what she is seeing, answer questions, and help patients understand the patterns that may be influencing how they feel.
The goal is a relationship where you feel heard, understand your care, and have an active place within your own healing process.

Usui Reiki
Some forms of healing begin in stillness.
Haley’s relationship with Reiki began long before she became an acupuncturist.
For more than ten years, Usui Reiki has been part of both her personal healing journey and her development as a practitioner.
Reiki offers a quiet, noninvasive form of energy work intended to support relaxation, inner stillness, energetic balance, and a deeper sense of connection with oneself.
For Haley, this work has also shaped the way she understands healing.
Not everything a person carries is purely physical.
Stress, emotion, mental activity, physical experience, and a person’s inner life can all influence the way they feel within themselves.
During a Reiki session, Haley creates space for the recipient to slow down and receive — without needing to perform, explain, or force an outcome.
Her approach is simple: presence, stillness, and space for the person to receive what they need from the experience.

Ayurvedic Life Coaching
Healing is influenced by what happens between appointments.
Haley is also a Certified Ayurvedic Life Coach, adding another perspective to the way she understands whole-person health.
Ayurveda considers how everyday rhythms — food, movement, rest, environment, emotional patterns, and individual constitution — can influence how a person feels.
For Haley, this training reinforced something that also exists at the heart of Classical Chinese Medicine:
The same recommendation is not right for every person.
Our bodies respond differently to the foods we eat, the environments we live in, the demands placed upon us, and the rhythms we keep.
Haley draws from this understanding when considering the larger context surrounding a person’s health — not to replace her Chinese Medicine training, but to broaden the perspective she brings to care.
Because healing does not only happen during treatment. It is also shaped by the life the body returns to afterward.

The Practitioner Behind the Credentials
Knowledge creates the foundation. Presence shapes the experience.
Haley has spent years studying the body, teaching science, and exploring different traditions of healing.
But when she sits across from a patient, she does not begin with everything she knows.
She begins with the person in front of her.
Haley is naturally curious. She asks questions, listens carefully, and wants to understand how someone arrived where they are — not simply identify what is wrong.
Her years as an educator also taught her how to make complicated ideas understandable without making people feel overwhelmed.
She wants patients to feel comfortable asking questions, understanding their treatment, and participating in decisions about their care.
And beneath all of her training is something much simpler:
She genuinely cares about the people she works with.
For Haley, knowledge matters. Clinical reasoning matters. Tradition matters.
But none of it replaces presence, compassion, and the willingness to truly listen.

How Haley Practices
Thoughtful. Individualized. Whole-person.
Haley does not begin with a protocol.
She begins by understanding the person in front of her.
What she learns through conversation, observation, Chinese Medicine diagnosis, and the way the body presents that day helps shape the treatment that follows.
Two people may arrive with the same diagnosis and receive very different care.
And the same person may not need exactly the same treatment from one visit to the next.
The treatment responds to the person — not the other way around.
Haley brings clinical reasoning, Classical Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, and a deep respect for the individual into every session.
Her approach is thoughtful without being rigid and comprehensive without losing sight of what matters most:
What does this person need today?

Haley at Blue Root
A practitioner whose way of seeing the body belongs here.
Curiosity before assumption. Individualized care before protocol. Respect for the whole person behind the symptoms.
Haley brings something deeply aligned with the way we practice at Blue Root: curiosity before assumption, individualized care before protocol, and respect for the whole person behind the symptoms.
Her scientific background gives her a strong understanding of the physical body.
Classical Chinese Medicine gives her another way to recognize patterns and relationships.
And her years of Reiki practice bring a quieter dimension of presence and awareness into the way she cares for people.
But what matters most is how those pieces come together.
Haley listens. She asks questions. She thinks deeply about what she is seeing. And she approaches each person as an individual rather than a diagnosis.
She is not here to practice exactly like anyone else at Blue Root. She is here because the way she practices belongs within what Blue Root stands for.
Education & Professional Training
Multiple disciplines. One thoughtful foundation for care.
Your Health Is More Than a Collection of Symptoms
You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what is connected — or what kind of treatment you need.
You can simply begin with what you are experiencing.
Haley will listen, ask questions, look for the patterns that may be connecting your symptoms, and create care around you— your history, your body, and what you need now.
Because meaningful treatment begins with understanding the person receiving it.
