Acupuncture
At Blue Root, acupuncture is never reduced to a standard set of points. Every treatment is created through careful assessment, Chinese Medicine pattern discrimination, and the real-time responses of your body.

A Whole-Person Medicine
Acupuncture is not limited to a short list of conditions.
Chinese Medicine looks beneath the diagnosis to understand the patterns affecting the body’s ability to regulate, communicate, circulate, recover, and heal.
Pain, digestion, sleep, energy, hormones, circulation, emotional strain, previous injuries, and nervous-system function may appear separate—but they are often deeply connected.
By identifying and treating these relationships, acupuncture can address a remarkably broad range of health concerns.
The diagnosis tells us what has been named. The pattern helps us understand what your body needs.

Assessment guides every treatment decision.
Personalized at Every Visit
Acupuncture at Blue Root reflects years of formal education, clinical experience, advanced postgraduate study, and continued training across multiple acupuncture traditions.
Rather than practicing one rigid style, our treatments draw from different systems according to what the patient’s body requires. These include Traditional Chinese Medicine, Classical Chinese Medicine, advanced palpation-guided acupuncture, channel-based treatment, balance methods for pain, scalp acupuncture, and detailed pattern discrimination.
The goal is not to fit the patient into a method.
The goal is to understand the patient deeply enough to choose the right method—or combination of methods—for that person.
Palpation is an important part of the Blue Root approach.
Your practitioner may examine specific areas of the abdomen, neck, chest, back, channels, muscles, or joints for tenderness, tension, restriction, temperature differences, and other physical responses.
Potential acupuncture points can then be tested while the body is reassessed:
These immediate responses help confirm whether the selected points are creating the intended change within the pattern we are treating.
If the body does not respond as expected, the treatment changes.
No two patients receive exactly the same treatment—and one patient will not necessarily receive the same treatment at every appointment.
As symptoms shift, different layers of the pattern become visible. The point selection, treatment strategy, and areas of focus evolve accordingly.
This is the standard of acupuncture at Blue Root: extensive training, careful observation, real-time assessment, and treatment shaped around the individual every single time.
Acupuncture is both medicine and art—the ability to listen deeply enough to recognize what the body is asking for.

Assessment guides every treatment decision.
Whole-Body Application
Because acupuncture treats patterns rather than isolated diagnoses, it can be applied across a remarkably broad range of health concerns. Some patients come for one specific symptom. Others come with several concerns that appear unrelated. Treatment looks for the connections between them and works to create meaningful change within the pattern.
Scalp acupuncture can be incorporated when appropriate for the patient and treatment strategy.
This is not an exhaustive list.
Acupuncture can address patterns influencing multiple systems of the body. While no treatment can promise a cure or identical results for every person, acupuncture can create meaningful shifts in symptoms, regulation, function, resilience, and overall quality of life.
Your treatment is determined by the complete pattern—not solely by the name of the diagnosis.

Your Acupuncture Appointment
We begin with your primary concern, health history, medications, previous injuries, sleep, digestion, energy, stress, and other symptoms that help reveal the larger pattern.
Your assessment can include pulse and tongue diagnosis, abdominal and channel palpation, range-of-motion testing, and other evaluations relevant to your condition.
Very fine, sterile, single-use needles are placed at carefully selected points. Treatment can also incorporate electrical stimulation, heat therapy, scalp acupuncture, cupping, gua sha, or other appropriate techniques.
Pain, movement, tenderness, or other physical findings can be rechecked during the appointment. These responses help determine whether the treatment is creating the intended shift and guide what happens next.
Care That Evolves With You
There is no universal treatment schedule because there is no universal patient.
The frequency of care depends on how long the pattern has been present, the severity and complexity of the symptoms, the systems involved, your overall health, and how your body responds.
Acute, severe, or complex concerns may require closer treatment intervals initially. As the body begins to respond and maintain progress, appointments can often be spaced farther apart.
Consistency creates momentum—but the treatment must continue evolving as the body changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most patients are surprised by how comfortable acupuncture is. The needles used are extremely fine—far thinner than a hypodermic needle—and insertion is typically felt as a brief, mild sensation. Many patients fall asleep during treatment.
There is no universal answer because there is no universal patient. The frequency and total number of treatments depend on how long the pattern has been present, the complexity of the condition, and how your body responds. Acute concerns may resolve in a few sessions. Long-standing or complex conditions typically require a longer course of care.
Responses vary. Some patients notice improvement immediately. Others feel a temporary increase in symptoms before improvement begins—this is a recognized response, not a sign that treatment is not working. Fatigue, mild soreness, or a sense of deep relaxation are common after the first few sessions.
Acupuncture can be safely used during pregnancy when performed by a trained practitioner who understands pregnancy-specific protocols. Certain points are contraindicated during pregnancy and are avoided. Please inform your practitioner if you are pregnant or trying to conceive.
Yes. Acupuncture is well-suited to integrative care and can be coordinated with conventional medical treatment, physical therapy, chiropractic care, and other approaches. Your practitioner will review your current medications, treatments, and health history before beginning.
No referral is required. You may schedule directly. If you have recent lab work, imaging, or records from other providers, bringing them to your first appointment allows your practitioner to incorporate that information into your assessment.
